Dot Everyone – a public institution for the digital age – Martha Lane extends the baton

I’ve just signed Martha Lane Fox’s “Dot Everyone” change.org petition, because we need to *make it simple* for normal people to start and get involved in radical citizen-driven, co-produced and collaborative socio-technological innovation to transform neighbourhoods, public services and their own lives.

Recognising that everyone needs to be a part of our digital evolution and we need the strength and imagination of diversity is foundational, as is enabling, encouraging and supporting everyone to play their own part.

We can’t afford to wait for others to tell us what to do, when our institutions are in melt-down, we need to recognise and make the most of what already have individually and together and the fantastic work that individuals and groups have already started.

New technologies can help us join us all up and reassemble all the pieces in new ways, allowing us to stand on each others shoulders and accomplish collaboratively and bottom-up what we could not even imagine, working in isolation and in top-down in institutional silos.

Let’s all have the courage to say “me too”, take the first step forward and grasp the baton offered by Martha and draw others alone with us on the journey of our lifetimes.
